As part of an on-going drive to support community focussed initiatives, Ray White Ponsonby has purchased an AED (Automated External Defibrillator), located at our sales office at 259 Ponsonby Road.

This potentially lifesaving device is for use by any member of the public in the case of someone suffering a cardiac arrest – just come into our offices and ask for it.

An AED delivers a short, powerful electric shock to the heart, helping the heart to regain its natural rhythm. Modern AEDs, such as the model we’ve just purchased, are not complicated or difficult to use. The AED has voice commands that instruct you throughout the process and for giving CPR, so you don’t need to be a medical professional to use it.

More than 1,200 people die every year in New Zealand after suffering a cardiac arrest. Applying CPR and rapid defibrillation can increase a patient’s chances of survival by up to 40%. But for every minute without CPR or defibrillation, a patient’s chance of survival falls by 10-15%.

There are now over 5,000 AEDs available for public use in NZ – enough to service half of the population. St John is aiming to double that figure, so that 100% of New Zealanders are covered. Ray White Damerell Group is proud to be helping St John achieve this goal, and at the same providing a valuable service to the Ponsonby community.
